Have you ever heard something so soulful & funky that upon a distant listen it makes you stop what you are doing and start moving furniture to dance? This is what it was like the first time we heard Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings.
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings put on an amazing show at The Vic! It was our first time at the Vic amazing which of course reminded us a lot of the Riviera Theatre. I think we missed the opener Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound though we did arrive pretty early which sucked. The moment her lead vocalist hit the stage we knew this would be an amazing show. We danced so much it was perplexing how some of the crowd wasn’t moving with all the funk & soulful lyrics pouring from the vocals of the Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. We stayed until the end of her set then debated the after set DJ set with the Dap Kings but grew extremely hungry instead so we left for food options. It was Great to see Sharon Jones, hear her message of struggle through expression and see her put forth so much energy after recently fighting pancreatic cancer & chemotherapy treatment. Sharon live carries the will, stylish tastes and grace of greats such as Tina Turner while having the crowd command, soul & funk of the godfather James Brown. Her strength, courage and passion is very uplifting. We dance so much we where sore for the next 3 day to come. Thank you Motor Mouth Media for showing us love into a sold out show with short notice you truly gave us a night to be remembered.
